The City of Hisar
Hisar is an ancient as well as a modern city – ancient as its healing thermals and modern as their fresh streams.
According to the archeological researches, 5000 years BC there had been an ancient city located around the Hisar thermals. Later around the thermal Thracians set up, and in a few centuries Romans came to inhibite this region. In 293 the Roman Emperor Diocletian walled the city which was named after him – Diocletianopol. The archeological remnants and monuments of different cultures – Thracian, Roman and others are preserved up to now and represent one of the many attractions of the Hisar Resort.
The city is located at the central part of Bulgaria, at the South slopes of Stara planina (the Ancient mountain) at 360 metres altitude.
Hisar is connected to the national transport net while it is close to the Thrace Headway, as well as to the Balcan Headway. The city is 36 km away from Plovdiv and 160 km away from Sofia.
Famous with its thermals since the ancient times, the city offers many opportunities for leisure activities, recreation and entertainments.

The local wind, called “vechernik” (evening wind) cools the city in the hot summer nights, filled with nightingales’ songs. In the different seasons, the city is engulfed in the fragrance of limes, lilacs and roses.
